HEIFER PROJECT INTERNATIONAL

WE DID IT!!!! Final Total:  $6,304.31 The congregation at St. John's has surpassed its goal of raising $5000 to fill an ark with animals for Heifer Project International!  This worthwhile all year mission project has served as testament to the compassion and unselfish giving of St. Johns' members.  Reaching this goal further proves the commitment that St. John's has to improving the lives of others, as well as improving the environment of our planet.

In 1944, Heifer Project International sent Faith, Hope and Charity and 15 other heifers by ship to struggling families in Puerto Rico.  That voyage marked the start of a new life for those families, and for others like them around the world.  Today HPI provides more that 20 different animals, from ducks and camels to llamas and geese.  Over 4 million impoverished families in approximately 116 countries and 38 states are leading self-reliant lives as a result of support for HPI projects.As it was for Noah, the ark is about hope, about a new beginning.  For HPI project families, animals can provide:

• food for the children through milk, eggs or meat
• income for housing, health care, school fees and other needs
• motivation to plant trees and grasses and make other environmental improvements
• a catalyst for community development

The ark is also about multiplication.  God told Noah, "Take all the animals with you, so they may reproduce and spread over all the earth."  Today, HPI animals are spreading over the earth as each participating family "passes on the gift" of one or more of their animal's offspring to another family in need.  This miracle of birth creates a chain of living that continues for years.The Fill the Ark Project:
